Pharmacoepidemiology of acne and online anonymous treatment reviews

Sergeev A.Yu., Burtzeva G.N., Sergeev V.Yu.

Acne is a chronic inflammatory disease with significant impact on quality of life and social adaptation of adolescents and younger adults. We have established an online tool to examine the beliefs, skincare patterns and attitudes towards acne treatment in a growing network support community. A total of 4660 Russian"speaking acnepatients were examined with a special questionnaire (83% women, aged 22 on average). The treatment trends inside the community in 2010"2012 seem to follow the market shares of major over"the"counter acne brands, including erythromycin"zinc lotion. The latter was perceived best by respondents, in overall and most single review axes, with a favorablerespondent"derived cost" effectiveness ratio. The study reveals that only 28% of acne patients report to adhere completely to the treatment regime.Better acne product reviews were obtained from respondents with longer experience of treatment.
